Mugabe says defeat disastrous

newmugpol.jpgPresident Robert Mugabe says the defeat in the first round of presidential elections in Zimbabwe had been “disastrous”.

He told a meeting of his minority party Zanu-PF ,’Although the presidential result did not yield an outright winner, it was indeed disastrous.

“Nevertheless we are set for a second round, for the run-off which must now decide the winner.”

ZEC has revealed the run-off between the president and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai will take place on June 27.

ZANU PF unveiled its theme for the run-off which is “100 percent Empowerment: Total Independence.”

Meanwhile, majority leader Morgan Tsvangirai has accused his rival of declaring war on his own people.

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader told a conference of worldwide liberal party members in Belfast that the end of the ruling regime is inevitable.

He said: “Mugabe’s regime is weak, bankrupt morally and financially - he has few friends, and no credibility.

“The downfall of this dictatorship is inevitable, but the timing is open to question.

“The regime in Harare does not intend to surrender power, and will do everything to hold onto the same.

“Robert Mugabe has turned his back on the people he swore to liberate and protect.

“The former ruling party has declared war on its own people - no Zimbabwean is safe from this dangerous dictator.

“My party is a government in waiting that is not prepared to with any longer.”

Mr Tsvangirai has been abroad since the election result because of alleged threats to his life.

Looking ahead, he said: “We will begin to engage and work with the people and begin to fulfil our mandate to save the people.

“The first act of our new parliament will be to discuss a new constitution, in accordance with the people’s wishes.”

  1. Unfortunately they still can’t read the writing on the wall. Honestly, after the people spoke the way they did how could ZANU go on to bludgeon them into submission? What kind of reasoning is behind all this? I think ZANU has dug its own grave by this abominable act. Even if they ‘win’ by hook or by crook they will not survive as a result. They have sown the seeds of hatred from the people.

  2. I don`t think so Sekuru Jecha.Zimbos are not as resistant. After voting, they just say,OK we tried our best but failed, let`s wait for the next chance. That`s how they behaved in all previous cases regardless of the opposition initiating resistance. The few who try, will just be arrested.
No seeds of hatred will grow as you imagine.Zero.History tells so,unless you say out the strategy for that if you have one.

  12. Scarface have you seen his latest luxury palace? The $26 Million USD palace the chinese gave him in 2005 in exchange for Zimbabwean resources.

Are you blind to the suffering in Zimbabwe? By his own electoral commisions declaration, more than 50% of Zimbabweans are unhappy with him.

Let me ask you this, what did he do for the Chinese that they gave him so much money?

Mugabe stole Zimbabwean resources and gave it to the Chinese for personal profit. Are you blind to not see this?

The resources of Zimbabwe are not owned by him to sell and get personal profits. He is a theif, and he doesn’t know any economics.

Why is his dumb government running things?

He has driven away investment by people who believe in the long term prosperity of Zimbabwe. He has prevented businesses from being able to fairly compete. Investment money is needed to build factories, worker training centers, hospitals, financing institutions, roads etc. But he has made a hostile environment for that.

For millions of dollars in “gifts” by foreigners, he has given them unfettered dirt cheap access to raw resources of Zimbabwe because he himself made Zimbabwe poor.

Mugabe is the real and true best puppet of the foreigners. He is the one that gives them the fruits of Zimbabwe so cheaply.

Just because he seized some white farmer land doesn’t mean he is not a puppet. Those are all fake moves, the foreigners may pretend to raise a fuss but actually they don’t care about it — because they can get stuff from Zimbabwe even cheaper now.

PLIZ FOR ALL ZIMBABWEANS WHO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS ON THIS FORUM, LET’S FORGET ABOUT SCARFACE, GHOSTFACE AND MORGIDZA TSVANGWA, AND RATHER GIVE OUR FOCUS TO THE ISSUES TABLED IN THE PAPER ARTICLES.

  17. The last 8 years has been a disaster for Zim. So lets get rid of the cause, not just the symptoms.
A country that has the talent to be world class is in the gutter because of the greed of a coterie of generals and an old rogue. Zim is a nice country to own. The people own it, not the old tyrant.
    Aluta Continua…

    ‘Government inaction is fuelling xenophobia’

    17 May 2008, 10:36

Attacks on foreigners living in South Africa are nothing new - they’ve been going on for over 10 years - and experts warn the government’s failure to act decisively has simply fuelled the xenophobia.

This week the media, politicians and aid organisations poured into Alexandra township in Sandton following the bloody attacks, murder and rape of foreigners. The violence followed multiple countrywide attacks.

“This is not a new phenomenon - it’s been happening for some time. But it has never been given the due attention it deserves,” said Dr Emmanuel Nyakarashi of the Johannesburg-based Refugee Ministries Centre.

Fifteen countrywide mob attacks on foreigners have taken place since December in Gauteng, the North West, Eastern Cape, the Free State and the Western Cape.

The Somalian Association of SA has recorded 471 fatalities in 11 years. And Human Rights Watch warned of “alarming” increases in anti-foreigner feelings since 1998.

“The government response toward the current influx of foreigners into SA has groomed xenophobia,” said Nyakarashi…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
